NY Fashion Week 2020 - The Low Down

Did anyone else just love the line-up for NYFW 2020? The transition from high fashion to street fashion can often be a little tricky to see. More often than not, the runway features crazy assortments of shapes, colours and whacky eccentric accessories. Outfits that you can’t imagine seeing somebody wear on the street as they pass you by on their way to work. However NYFW 2020 was something else entirely. We were surprised to see completely wearable pairings, subtle layerings and fits we were almost envious over. So here we are to cast a little light on who wore what at New York fashion week.

One thing we could not ignore was the abundance of patterns. Whether it was trench coats dipped in vibrant patterns, or sheer polka dot layering, spring is just around the corner and we think the fashion industry is trying to tell us something. Not only were patterns frolicking around on the runway, but they were spotted on numerous guests too. Patterned fabrics are so easily dressed down to a wearable street style. Sheer polka dot blouses are everywhere right now, why not layer them with a cami underneath to protect your modesty, and your warmth. Add some high waisted mom jeans, cinched in with a waist belt, an elongated cardigan, chunky trench coat and your favourite pair of booties for a seriously wearable style.

Neons made a splash last summer, and it seems they’re here to stay for 2020’s sunshine too. Spotted at NY Fashion week was a consistent trend of full neon outfits. Now we wouldn’t recommend going all out in neon, unless maybe you are attending a festival. Instead, opt for one statement item in a fluorescent shade and counteract the colour with a muted palette for the rest of the outfit. Grab yourself a neon roll neck jumper, and pair it with a simple pair of fitted black jeans, chunky boots and a chain bag. An outfit that dares to be noticed, yet keeps you warm and comfortable.

Another recurring trend at New York Fashion Week had to be utility. This style has really picked up this year and last, heavy combat boots, beanie hats and oversized coats paired with oversized hoodies and combat trousers. This year is the year for comfortable style. If you’re worried about losing your figure too much, then swap out the hoodie for a fitted crop top. It will draw attention back to your silhouette whilst remaining in keeping with the style of the outfit. Keep it laidback by adding a cross-body bag. NYFW saw utility paired with feminine pieces like wrap skirts too. Fitted racer crop tops paired with wrap skirts creates a stunning feminine look. Try pairing it with heeled boots for a dressed up look, or chunky trainers for a more chilled vibe.

And there you have it, the trends and best bits of NYFW 2020. We hope this little run down shaved a few minutes off your stressful what to wear routine. Now go get em.
