Whether you’re a casual dresser, or a smart dresser, one thing you cannot leave out of your wardrobe is knitwear. Sweaters, cardigans, turtlenecks, you name it. Knitwear is not only extremely versatile, but completely necessary when temperatures like to drop (which we know they do in good old Canada). The past year has seen women’s knitwear truly blossom from a simple item to a statement item. Take the turtleneck for example, whether you opt for a fitted long sleeve, or a loose chunky turtleneck, they can really pull together an outfit and take you from looking laidback to looking smart and ready; depending on the look you’re after. For a casual style, go for a chunky oversized turtle neck, paired with some skinny black jeans, chunky trainers, an oversized coat, then finish it off with a beanie hat, and a bag over the shoulder. Fitted turtle necks can be paired with a fitted skirt (we especially love checked and tartan patterns at the moment) add some tights, some heeled boots, a chunky scarf and an oversized coat and you have an office friendly outfit that will keep you warm and looking stylish. If you’re struggling to take your knitwear to the next level, why not try some small statement gold hoops, or even some layered gold necklaces. They will add a sparkle of luxe to the outfit, making it look a little less thrown together.
Off the shoulder knitwear has made a comeback this season. These pieces can be dressed up or down depending on the weather. Layer it up with a teddy or smart wool coat, a fitted pair of blue skinny jeans and some chunky military style boots. A comfy, cosy look to browse the shops in, or grab a bite for lunch with the ladies.
Another item which has become quite a statement piece of knitwear in women’s fashion has to be the elongated cardigan. Skimming the calves, these cardigans look best when on the chunky side and look effortlessly chic. Our favourite pairing has to be a spaghetti strap style cami, some blue mom jeans cinched in at the waist with a black statement belt, chunky military boots and your favourite backpack slung over one arm. Obviously, the cami is completely weather-dependent and not advisable in the coldest Canadian months, but if you’re after a casual drinks outfit, or even an indoor day trip outfit, then this look is perfect. You could even layer it up with a thick long coat to protect you from the winter chill, should you decide to brave the outdoors.
Sweater dresses are such an easy go to when arranging a winter knitwear look. Our current favourite style steal is to pair a knitted dress with a long white shirt style dress underneath. By layering, the outfit has much more visual appeal. Your silhouette can be brought back by adding a waist belt, then finish it off with a pair of chunky boots and some thick wool tights and you’ve got a simple yet very effective day look.
And finally, an item which we are especially excited about; our shoulder cut out knitted jumpers designed for warmth and versatility, they are also
bang on trend with a statement cut out design, they can be worn out for cocktails or for a good old Sunday chill on the couch day.
